This weekend on Retro Pop Reunion, we’re celebrating the return of the LP with a MELTED VINYL WEEKEND! For the first time in 35 years, vinyl record sales surpassed CD sales, according to the Recording Industry Association of America’s annual revenue report.
Vinyl records made up 70% of all physical music sales in 2022, bringing in a total of $1.2 billion in revenue.
So what’s behind the record resurgence? Younger music lovers in Gen Z are 25% more likely to buy vinyl, according to Luminate.
The pandemic also played a part, with many people stuck at home and trying new hobbies.
It wasn’t so long ago that everyone was looking to unload their albums… you could hit a yard sale and score a copy of “Thriller” for $2!
But now that vinyl is back, we’re going to put your favorite 80’s albums on the turntable for this week’s Retro Pop Playlist! We’re talking “New Jersey,” “Faith,” “Purple Rain,” and the list just keeps going! Tell us your favorite and Joe will play it, this week on Retro Pop Reunion!
